Swami Vivekananda’s Test

Image
Swami Vivekananda was known for his deep knowledge of both Eastern and Western cultures. His powerful way of speaking and spiritual wisdom made him the perfect person to represent Hinduism at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. The day before he left for America, his mother invited him for dinner. She lovingly prepared his favorite food. After dinner, she offered him a bowl of fruit along with a knife to cut it. After Vivekananda finished eating, his mother asked, “Son, can you please pass me the knife?” Without thinking much, he handed the knife to his mother. She smiled and said, “Son, you have passed my test. You have my blessing for your journey.” Vivekananda was surprised. “What test, Mother?” he asked. She replied, “When I asked for the knife, you gave it to me by holding the sharp edge and pointing the handle towards me. That showed me you care more about others than yourself. A person who thinks of others’ safety and well-being is truly ready ...

Poor Man’s Kindness

Image
Once, Swami Vivekananda was staying in a village in Rajasthan. When people found out, they came in large numbers to meet him. Swami ji spent his time patiently answering everyone's questions. This continued for three whole days and nights. Swami ji became so involved in guiding people that he didn’t take a break—not even for food or water. On the third night, after all the visitors had left, a poor man came to Swami ji. He folded his hands and said, “Swami ji, I’ve been watching you. For three days, you have been talking to people without eating or drinking. It pains me to see this.” Swami ji saw God in the kind heart of this poor man and gently asked, “Will you give me something to eat?” The poor man was a cobbler by profession and belonged to a lower caste. In those days, people from lower castes were not even allowed to go near saints or Brahmins. So, the man hesitated and said, “Swami ji, I want to bring you some bread, but I belong to a lower caste… How can you eat so...

The Honest Boy

Image
Ravi was a young boy who lived in a small village. One day, he was walking home from school when he saw a wallet on the road. He picked it up and looked inside. It had a lot of money and an ID card. Ravi could have kept the wallet, but he knew it was not his. He wanted to do the right thing. He went to the village office and gave the wallet to the officer. “I found this on the road,” Ravi said. The officer looked at the wallet and smiled. “Thank you, Ravi. This belongs to Mr. Sharma,” said the officer. He called Mr. Sharma to come and take his wallet. Mr. Sharma was very happy. He thanked Ravi and said, “You are a good boy. I am proud of your honesty.” Ravi smiled. He felt happy too. He knew that being honest was the right thing to do.

True Profitable Transaction

Image
Guru Nanak Ji’s father knew that young Nanak loved talking to people. He thought, “If Nanak is to learn how to earn money, trading might be the right way.” One day, he gave twenty rupees to Bhai Bala and said, “Go with Nanak to the market. Buy something good and sell it for a profit.” Bhai Bala and Nanak Ji set out toward the market. After walking about ten miles from their village, they saw a group of hermits resting under a tree. Nanak Ji stopped and said to Bhai Bala, “Father told us to make a profitable deal. But I believe feeding these holy men is the best profit we can earn.” Nanak Ji took the money and humbly offered it to the hermits. The leader of the group replied, “Son, we have no need for money. We live in the forest and never visit towns or villages. But if you bring us some food, we will gladly accept it.” Nanak Ji and Bhai Bala went to the nearby village. They bought food and clothes with the money and brought them back for the hermits. They gave everything ...

Giving Advice

Once, there was a little boy who loved sweets. He ate them all the time. His mother was worried. She tried many ways to stop him, but nothing worked. In a nearby village, there lived a wise man. Everyone respected him. So, the mother thought, “Maybe my son will listen to him.” She took her son to the wise man and said, “Please tell my son to stop eating sweets. It’s bad for his health.” The wise man listened but said, “Come back after one month.” The mother was surprised. She didn’t understand why he didn’t help right away. But she left and came back a month later. This time, the wise man took the boy for a short walk. Then he looked at the boy and said, “You should stop eating sweets. They are not good for your health.” The boy nodded and promised to stop. The mother thanked the wise man and went home with her son. A few days later, she came back and said, “Thank you. My son hasn’t eaten any sweets since he met you.” She asked, “But why did you tell us to come back a...

The Cost of a Saree

Image
Once, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Prime Minister of India, visited a textile mill. The owner of the mill welcomed him warmly and showed him around the factory. After the tour, Shastri ji saw some beautiful sarees in the warehouse. He asked the owner if he could take a look at them. The owner was happy to hear this and asked his staff to bring the best sarees for him. Many high-quality and beautiful sarees were shown. Shastri ji liked one of them and asked for its price. The owner said it cost ₹800. Shastri ji looked surprised and said, “That’s too expensive. Can you show me something more affordable?” So, the owner showed sarees costing ₹500, ₹400, and so on. But Shastri ji still said, “These are still too costly. Don’t you have anything that someone like me, a poor man, can buy?” The owner was shocked and said, “But you are the Prime Minister! How can you say you are poor? And you don’t have to pay. This saree can be a gift from us.” Shastri ji gently replied, “No, I cannot...

Facing Difficulties in Life

Image
A long time ago, in a quiet village, lived a man who had deep faith in God. One night, while he was fast asleep, a loud sound startled him. He opened his eyes and saw his room filled with a bright light. In that light, he saw God, who pointed to a huge rock outside the man’s house and said, “Push that rock with all your strength.” The next morning, the man remembered the vision clearly. Without wasting time, he went outside and began pushing the rock with all his might. But no matter how hard he tried, the rock didn’t move. Still, the man didn’t give up. Day after day, from sunrise to sunset, he kept pushing that rock. Years went by. His muscles ached, his body grew tired, but he continued—faithfully. Each evening, he returned home sore and disappointed. The rock never moved, not even an inch. He began to feel like all his effort had been for nothing. One night, while he was asleep, the devil came to him in a dream and whispered, “You’ve been pushing that rock for years and ...

Taking a Friend’s Place

Image
Once in a kingdom, there lived a man named Liam. One day, he spoke out against the king’s wrongdoings. The king, proud and harsh, was furious. He ordered his soldiers, “Arrest this man and hang him!” Liam didn’t resist. Calmly, he said, “Your Majesty, I accept your punishment. But please, grant me one last wish. Let me visit my home and see my children one final time before I die.” The king shook his head. “No. What if you run away? How can I be sure you'll return?” Just then, a man from the crowd stepped forward and said, “My Lord, take me as his guarantee. Put me in prison. If he doesn’t return, you can hang me instead.” Everyone was shocked. Even the king was surprised. “Why would you risk your life for him?” he asked. The man replied, “He is my best friend. I trust him with my life. He will come back.” The king was moved by this loyalty. “Fine,” he said. “Liam, you have six hours to go home and return. After that, your friend will be hanged.” Liam left at once, met hi...

The Priest’s Good Deed and Its Reward

Image
One day, Lord Krishna and Arjuna were taking a walk. On the way, they saw a poor priest begging for help. Feeling sorry, Arjuna gave the priest a bag full of gold coins. The priest was very grateful and started walking home. On the way, he saw another poor man asking for help, but he ignored him—he just wanted to get home quickly with his treasure. But before he could reach home, a thief stopped him and stole all the gold. The priest returned to begging. The next day, Arjuna saw the same priest begging again. Surprised, he asked what had happened. The priest told him everything. Arjuna, feeling bad, gave him a diamond ring this time. The priest was happy again and headed home. Just like before, he saw someone in need—but ignored him again. When he reached home, his wife was asleep. So he quietly placed the ring in an empty pot in the kitchen and went to rest. Later, his wife unknowingly took that same pot to the river to collect water. As soon as she dipped the pot, the ring...

Making a Difference

Image
Tom went for a walk on the beach every day. One day, he noticed a man bending down, picking something up, and gently tossing it into the sea. Curious, Tom walked closer. As he approached, he saw that the man was picking up starfish that had washed ashore and throwing them back into the water. Tom greeted him and asked, “Good evening! What are you doing?” The man smiled and replied, “These starfish were washed up by the tide. If they stay on the shore, they’ll die from lack of oxygen. I’m helping them get back to the ocean.” Tom nodded. “I see… but there are thousands of starfish on this beach. You can't possibly save them all. And this probably happens on hundreds of other beaches too. How can this really make a difference?” The man smiled again. He bent down, picked up another starfish, tossed it into the ocean, and said, “It made a difference to that one.” Moral of the Story: We may not be able to change the entire world, but we can make a difference—one step, one acti...

Kid’s Admission Interview

Image
A little girl was taken by her parents to a reputed school for her UKG (Upper Kindergarten) admission interview. The competition was tough, and the parents were quite nervous. They entered the principal’s office. The parents sat on the sofa, and the child sat opposite the principal. The principal began with a warm smile: Principal: What’s your name? Kid: Sita. Principal: Good. Tell me something you know. Kid: I know many things. You can ask me anything you like! Her mother panicked a little, thinking that answer might ruin the chances of admission. She was about to speak, but the principal gently stopped her and turned back to the child. Principal: Can you tell me a rhyme or a story? Kid: Which one would you prefer—rhyme or story? Principal: Hmm, okay. Tell me a story. Kid: Do you want me to tell one I studied, or one I wrote myself? The principal was surprised. Principal: Oh! You write stories too? Kid: Why not? Intrigued and smiling, the principal asked: ...

Karna’s Generosity

Image
One day, while Lord Krishna and Arjuna were out for a walk, Arjuna asked, “May I ask you something, Krishna?” Krishna smiled and said, “Of course, ask freely.” Arjuna said, “I don’t understand why people say Karna is the most generous person. I give a lot too.” Krishna smiled again and replied, “I could tell you, but it’s better if you see it for yourself.” With a blink, Krishna turned two nearby hills into gold. Then he said to Arjuna, “Go and give this gold to the villagers nearby.” Arjuna quickly went and called all the villagers. He made them stand in a line and started giving gold to each person one by one. The villagers praised him, and Arjuna started feeling proud. Slowly, ego crept into him. He kept distributing gold day and night for two days. But the gold never seemed to run out. More and more villagers kept coming back for more. Finally, tired and frustrated, Arjuna went back to Krishna and said, “I can’t do this anymore. I’m exhausted.” Krishna replied gent...

God’s Work

Image
Rohit was traveling from one city to another but missed his morning train. While waiting at the station, he decided to grab some breakfast. He walked out toward a nearby hotel. On the way, he noticed two young boys sitting on the sidewalk. Their clothes were torn, and it was clear from their faces that they were hungry. Feeling sorry for them, Rohit gave them ₹10 and walked away. As he walked, a thought crossed his mind: "What can anyone even buy with ₹10 these days? I can’t get a cup of tea with it." Feeling guilty, Rohit turned back. He went to the boys and asked, “Would you like to come with me and have something to eat?” The boys looked at each other, unsure. But their hunger won over hesitation, and they agreed. When they reached the hotel, the hotel owner stopped the boys from entering, pointing at their dirty clothes. Rohit stepped in and said, “They’re with me. I’m paying for their meal.” The hotel owner realized his mistake, stepped aside, and let them in...

Out There or In Here

Image
One evening, a Rabi was out on the street, searching for something. A neighbor walked by and saw him looking around. “What are you searching for?” the neighbor asked. “I lost my key,” the Rabi replied. Wanting to help, the neighbor began searching with him. Soon, a few more neighbors joined in. But after a long search, no one could find the key. Finally, one of them asked, “Where exactly did you drop it?” The Rabi pointed toward his house and said, “I lost it inside my home.” Everyone was confused. “If you lost it in the house, then why are you looking for it out here in the street?” The Rabi smiled and said, “Because it’s brighter out here under the street light. My house is dark.” The neighbors laughed at his response. But then the Rabi gently said: “My friends, isn’t this what we all do? When we lose peace, joy, or meaning in life—because of a broken relationship or a tough situation—we start searching for answers outside. But what’s lost is inside us. We avoid lookin...

Using All Your Means

Image
One day, a father and his young son were working together in their garden. The son wanted to make his dad proud, so he tried his best to help by doing small tasks his dad gave him. They were working on opposite sides of the garden when the father saw a big stone near where his son was working. He called out, “Son, can you move that stone? We’ll plant something nice there.” The boy went to the stone and tried to push it. He gave it all his strength, but it wouldn’t budge. Tired and frustrated, he shouted, “Dad, I can’t do it! It’s too heavy!” His father replied, “Try again. Use all your means to move it.” The boy tried once more, pushing and pulling with all he had, but the stone still didn’t move. Finally, feeling defeated, he sat down and started crying. Hearing his son cry, the father rushed over and gently asked, “Why are you crying? I told you to use all your means. Didn’t you?” The son looked up and said sadly, “I did, Dad. I tried my best, but it was still too heavy.” ...

The Mirror and the Taxi Driver

Image
There was once a museum with a special room made entirely of mirrors — walls, ceiling, and floor. One night, the back door was accidentally left open, and a dog wandered inside. As the dog entered the room, it saw its own reflection all around. Thinking it was surrounded by other dogs, it got scared and started barking. The reflections barked back. The louder it barked, the louder the room echoed. The dog became more afraid and barked even more, trying to defend itself — until it collapsed from fear and exhaustion. The next morning, the guard found the poor dog lying lifeless. No one had hurt it — it died fighting its own reflections. Later that day, a man named Tony got into a taxi. On the way to the airport, another car suddenly swerved in front of them. The taxi driver hit the brakes just in time. The other driver, though at fault, started yelling angrily. But Tony’s driver simply smiled and waved back. Tony was surprised and asked, “Why didn’t you get angry? That could’ve b...

The Secret of the Old Man’s Strength

Image
One day, Confucius was passing through a village when he saw something unusual—an 85-year-old man and his young son pulling water from a well using a rope and bucket. At that time, most people used horses or oxen for such heavy work. Surprised, Confucius went up to the old man and said kindly, “Why are you making things so hard for yourself and your son? You could use animals to do this job.” The old man quickly gestured for him to be quiet. “Please don’t say that in front of my son,” he whispered. “I’ll explain, but only after he goes for lunch.” Confucius was puzzled but nodded. He waited until the young man left. Later, when they were alone, Confucius asked, “Why didn’t you want your son to hear what I said?” The old man smiled and replied, “I’m 85 years old, yet I still have the strength to work alongside my son, who is just 30. If I had used animals or machines to do this work, I wouldn’t be this strong—and neither would my son ever be, when he’s my age. If we let m...

Doubts of Soldiers

Image
Once, during a war in Japan, a small army was preparing to fight a much larger enemy. Even though they were outnumbered, the general of the small army believed they could win. Confident in victory, he told his lieutenant to get the soldiers ready for battle. The lieutenant gathered the troops and shared the general’s plan. The soldiers were brave, but deep down, they were worried. They knew the enemy had more men, and doubts began to grow in their minds. The next morning, as they marched toward the battlefield, the general stopped at a small shrine. Everyone prayed for strength and victory. After the prayers, the general stood before his men and took out a coin. “Let’s ask fate,” he said. “If this coin shows heads, we’ll win. If it shows tails, we’ll lose.” He flipped the coin into the air. All eyes followed it as it landed on the ground— heads . The soldiers cheered. Their fears disappeared, and they marched forward with new confidence. On the battlefield, they fought with gr...

The Power of Creative Thinking

Image
One day, a young man was walking through a crowded city street when he saw an old blind man sitting on the sidewalk. In front of him was a small bowl with a few coins and a cardboard sign that read: “Blind – Please Help!” Even though people were rushing past, hardly anyone stopped or dropped a coin. The young man paused for a moment. He could tell the old man needed help, but maybe the message just wasn’t reaching people. So, he picked up the sign, turned it over, and wrote something new. Then he placed it back, smiled at the old man, and walked away. Within minutes, people started stopping. One after another, they dropped coins into the bowl. Some even spoke kind words before walking off. The old man, curious and amazed, asked a stranger nearby, “Can you please read what’s written on my sign now?” The stranger replied: “It says: It’s a beautiful day. You can see it. I cannot. ” Later that day, the young man—who happened to be a student—went back to his classroom for a phi...

Kid’s True Potential

Image
There was once a young boy in 5th grade who struggled a lot in school. His classmates often made fun of him, thinking he was the slowest in the class. Even he started believing it. His report card always showed low marks, but he would tell his mother, “It’s not a big deal.” But his mother believed in him. She knew he was capable of much more. So, she made three simple rules for him: He could only watch two pre-selected TV shows each week. He had to finish his homework before playing or watching TV. He had to read two library books every week and write a report on each. The boy was unhappy with the rules at first and tried to convince his mother to change her mind. But she didn’t. And because he respected his mother, he followed the rules. Soon, something amazing happened. One day in class, the teacher asked a tough question. The boy was the only one who knew the answer! Everyone was surprised — including the boy himself. He realized that he had learned that answer from one of...

The Coin for Someone in Need

Image
Once upon a time, there was a wise Sage who traveled from place to place. One day, as he walked through the capital city of a kingdom, he saw a coin lying by the roadside. He picked it up and kept it in his pocket. The Sage lived a very simple life and had no use for money, so he thought, “I’ll give this coin to someone who truly needs it.” He spent the whole day walking around the city, meeting many people. But to his surprise, everyone he spoke to seemed happy and content with their lives. No one looked like they were in need of help. That evening, he reached a rest area and stayed there for the night. The next morning, as the Sage was doing his morning prayers, the King of the land happened to pass by. Seeing the Sage, the King stopped and approached him. “I’m on my way to war,” the King said proudly. “I want to conquer a neighboring state and expand my kingdom. Please bless me so I can be victorious.” The Sage quietly reached into his pocket, pulled out the coin he had fo...

The Little Boy and the Wise Old Man

Once in a small village, there lived a young boy who loved sports. He was strong and fast, and winning was the most important thing to him. One day, a running race was held in the village. The boy joined the race with two other young boys. As the race started, the crowd cheered. The boy ran with all his strength and came first. He felt proud of himself. Soon, another race was announced. This time, the boy raced against two strong and fit boys. Again, he gave his best and finished first. The crowd clapped and cheered loudly. An old man in the crowd was watching everything. The boy, feeling proud and excited, shouted, “Let’s have another race! One more race!” The old man stepped forward and brought two new people to race with the boy — a weak old lady and a blind man. The boy was surprised and said, “This isn’t a real race!” The old man simply replied, “Let’s begin.” They all stood at the starting line. When the race began, the boy ran ahead alone. The old lady and the blind m...

A Father's Love – A Heart-Touching Story

Image
A young boy lived with his father. The two were very close, and the boy loved playing football. Though he rarely got to play in matches, his father always supported him and never missed a game. Even when the boy sat on the bench the entire time, his father cheered for him from the stands with a big smile. When he got into high school, he continued playing football. For four years, he worked hard, showed up at every practice, and never missed a game—though he still remained a benchwarmer. Later, when he joined college, he decided to try out for the football team as a "walk-on." Most people thought he wouldn’t make it, but he impressed the coach with his dedication and spirit. He made it to the team! Overjoyed, the young man called his father and told him the good news. He even sent him season tickets for all the college games. Throughout college, he still didn’t get a chance to play in real matches, but he kept training hard and never gave up. One day, before a big p...

Think Before You Speak

Image
It was a bright and pleasant day. The railway station was full of people waiting for their train. Among them was a group of young friends going on vacation. The station was busy with juice shops, tea stalls, food vendors, and newspapers for sale. Soon, a loudspeaker announced that the train was arriving. Everyone got ready to board. The group of friends cheered loudly as the train came in. They rushed in and found their reserved seats. The train filled quickly and then started moving with a loud whistle. Just after the train began to move, an old man and a young boy, about 15 years old, ran and managed to get on. Their seats were next to the group of friends. The boy looked very excited. “Dad, the train is moving and everything outside is going backward!” he said with surprise. His father smiled and nodded. As the train picked up speed, the boy shouted again, “Look! The trees are green and running backward fast!” He looked around with joy and wonder, as if he was seeing the ...

The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Image
A hungry Wolf wanted to catch some sheep, but the shepherd and his dogs were always watching. One day, the Wolf found the skin of a sheep that had been thrown away. He got an idea. He put the sheep’s skin over his body and walked into the flock, looking just like one of them. The lamb that belonged to the real sheep thought it was her mother and started to follow the Wolf. The Wolf took her aside and quickly ate her. For a while, the Wolf fooled everyone and ate well by pretending to be a sheep. Moral: Looks can be deceiving.

The Thirsty Crow

Image
One hot day, a crow was flying across the fields. She was very thirsty and looking everywhere for water. But no matter where she looked, she couldn’t find any. She was tired and almost ready to give up. Just then, she saw a jug under a tree. She flew down to check if there was any water inside. Yes! There was a little water at the bottom. The crow tried to reach it, but the neck of the jug was too narrow. She couldn't get her beak in. She also tried to tip the jug over, but it was too heavy. The crow sat and thought for a moment. Then she noticed some small pebbles nearby. She picked them up one by one and dropped them into the jug. Slowly, the water level rose. After a while, it was high enough for her to drink. The crow happily drank the water and flew away, feeling much better. Moral: If you keep trying and think smart, you can solve your problems.

The Shipwrecked Friends

Image
Once, a ship was caught in a terrible storm and sank at sea. Only two men survived and managed to swim to a small, empty island. Not knowing what else to do, they decided to pray. But they agreed to live on opposite sides of the island to see whose prayers would be answered. The first man prayed for food. The next morning, he found a tree full of fruit and ate from it. The second man’s side of the island stayed empty. A week passed, and the first man felt lonely. He prayed for a wife. The next day, another ship wrecked nearby, and the only survivor—a woman—swam to his side of the island. Still, the other man had nothing. Then the first man prayed for a house, clothes, and more food. All of it appeared the next day. The second man remained poor and alone. Finally, the first man prayed for a ship to take him and his wife off the island. The next morning, a ship arrived. The man and his wife got ready to leave, leaving the other man behind. Just as the ship was about to sail, a v...

The Monkey and the Dolphin

Image
Long ago, a group of sailors set sail on a long journey. One sailor brought along his pet monkey for company. After sailing for many days, a big storm hit and their ship sank. Everyone fell into the sea. The monkey struggled to stay afloat, afraid he would drown. Just then, a kind dolphin came by and helped the monkey climb onto its back. The dolphin swam through the waves and brought the monkey safely to a small island. When they reached the shore, the dolphin asked, “Do you know this island?” The monkey, wanting to impress the dolphin, lied and said, “Oh yes! I know it very well. The king of this island is my best friend. Actually, I’m a prince!” But the dolphin knew no one lived on the island. So he replied, “Really? Then you’ll soon be the king!” The monkey, surprised, asked, “How can I be the king?” The dolphin calmly swam away and said, “That’s easy. You’re the only one here, so the crown is all yours!” Moral: People who lie and brag often end up looking foolish.

The Goose with the Golden Eggs

Image
Once there was a man and his wife who owned a very special goose. Every day, the goose laid one golden egg. They were very happy and felt lucky to have it. But after a while, they became greedy. They wanted to get rich faster. They thought, “If the goose lays golden eggs, maybe it has a lot of gold inside it!” So, they decided to kill the goose and take all the gold at once. But when they cut it open, they found nothing special. It was just like any other goose. They had lost their goose—and all the golden eggs forever. Moral: Don’t be greedy. Think before you act.

Three Sons and a Bundle of Sticks

Image
Once upon a time, an old man lived in a village with his three sons. All three were strong and hardworking. But there was one problem — they kept fighting with each other all the time. No matter how much the old man advised them to stop quarreling and work together, they wouldn't listen. The villagers liked the sons for their hard work, but they also laughed at them because of their constant arguments. One day, the old man fell very sick. He was worried about what would happen after he was gone. He wanted his sons to stay united. Since they didn’t listen to his words, he decided to show them a lesson they would never forget. He called his sons and said, “I have a small challenge for you. I’ll give each of you 10 sticks. Break each stick one by one. Whoever finishes first will get a prize.” The sons quickly broke the sticks and started arguing again about who finished first. The old man said, “Wait! The challenge isn’t over yet. Now, I’ll give each of you another bundle o...

One day, the boy felt bored and wanted to have some fun. He thought of playing a trick on the villagers. He shouted loudly, "Wolf! Wolf! Please help!" The villagers heard his cries and quickly ran up the hill to help him. But when they reached there, the boy just laughed and said, "Ha ha! I tricked you. There is no wolf!" The villagers were not happy, and they went back home, annoyed. A few days later, the boy played the same trick again. "Wolf! Wolf! Help me!" he cried. Again, the villagers ran to help. But once more, the boy laughed and said, "I fooled you again!" This time, the villagers were very angry. "Don’t cry wolf when there is no wolf!" they warned. But the boy just smiled and didn’t take it seriously. Then, one evening, a real wolf ...

They walked through many places—villages, towns, forests, and beaches. Along the way, they helped and supported each other. After many days, they came to a hot, dry desert. They had very little food and water left. John said, “Let’s save what we have.” But James was very thirsty and wanted to drink more. They argued, and John became angry and slapped James. James didn’t say anything. He quietly bent down and wrote in the sand: “My best friend slapped me.” Later, they reached an oasis. They were very happy to find water and started playing and swimming. But suddenly, James slipped into deep water and started to drown. John quickly jumped in and saved him. James hugged John and thanked him. Before they left the oasis, James carved something on a big rock: “My best friend saved my life.” John asked, “Why did yo...

ABC Learns a Lesson

Image
ABC was a middle-aged man who came from a poor family. His father ran a small welding shop and worked long hours—more than 12 hours a day—to take care of the family. Even though they didn’t have much money, ABC’s parents raised him with love and care. ABC was an average student in school, usually scoring around 70%. His dream was to become a doctor, but his marks weren’t high enough. So instead, he joined a different course, completed it, and got a decent job in a company. As time went on, ABC’s father continued to work at his welding shop so he wouldn't have to depend on his son. After ABC got a permanent job, his parents asked him to get married. He married a girl from his hometown, got promoted at work, and soon had twin boys. ABC began earning a good salary and started living in luxury. He bought a new house and even bought a car, even though his company already gave him one. Many of the things he bought were not really needed. But after 6–7 years of living like this, h...

The Value of a Copper Coin

Mahatma Gandhi, known as the father of India, was truly a great soul. This story shows why people called him Mahatma , which means "great soul." One day, Gandhi was traveling to different cities and villages to raise money for an organization that helped the poor. After visiting many places, he arrived in Orissa. There, he held a public meeting and gave a speech, asking people to donate whatever they could. After his speech, an old woman stood up. She had white hair, wrinkled skin, and wore torn clothes. Her back was bent from age, but she slowly walked forward. The volunteers tried to stop her, but she didn’t give up. She pushed through and reached Gandhi. The old woman touched Gandhi’s feet, then took out a small copper coin from the folds of her saree. She gently placed it at his feet and quietly walked away. Gandhi picked up the coin and held it carefully in his hand. The treasurer of the organization asked Gandhi to give him the coin, but Gandhi refused. The trea...

The Monkeys and the Firefly

Image
It was a cold and quiet night. The wind was freezing, and a group of monkeys were sitting on a tree, holding onto its branches to stay warm. One monkey said, “I wish we had a fire. It would keep us warm.” Just then, they saw a group of fireflies glowing nearby. A young monkey thought the fireflies were real fire. He quickly caught one, placed it under a dry leaf, and began to blow on it, trying to make a fire. Some other monkeys joined him. A sparrow flew to her nest in the same tree. She saw what the monkeys were doing and laughed. “Silly monkeys,” she said. “That’s a firefly, not fire! If you're cold, go find a cave instead.” But the monkeys didn’t listen. They kept blowing on the firefly, hoping it would turn into fire. After a while, the monkeys were tired. Nothing was happening. Then they finally understood the sparrow was right. They let the firefly go and went to find a cave to stay warm.

The Cocoon and the Butterfly

Image
One day, a man saw a small cocoon hanging from a tree. He loved butterflies and was amazed by their colors and beauty. He knew that butterflies come from caterpillars, and he was excited to see one coming out. The cocoon had a tiny opening. The butterfly inside was trying hard to come out. The man watched it struggle for hours. It twisted, turned, and pushed, but it just couldn't break free. After watching for a long time, the man felt sorry for the butterfly. He thought, “Maybe I should help it.” So, he carefully took a pair of scissors and cut the cocoon open to make it easier for the butterfly to come out. The butterfly did come out—but it looked different. Its body was big and swollen, and its wings were small and weak. The man waited for the wings to grow and for the butterfly to fly, but that never happened. The butterfly just crawled around. It never flew. What the man didn’t know was this: the butterfly needed that struggle. The hard work of pushing out of the cocoon...

The Greedy Fox and the Tree Trunk

Image
One day, a hungry fox was walking through the forest looking for food. He had searched everywhere but couldn’t find anything to eat. He was tired and very hungry. As he reached the edge of the forest, he saw a big tree with a hole in its trunk. Curious, the fox looked inside and saw a package. He thought, “Maybe there’s food in there!” The fox quickly squeezed into the hole. To his surprise, the package had slices of bread, some meat, and fruit! An old woodcutter had left his lunch there while he worked in the forest. The fox was thrilled. He gobbled up all the food until he was completely full. After eating, he felt thirsty and tried to climb out of the hole to find water. But no matter how hard he pushed or pulled, he couldn’t get out. Why? Because he had eaten too much and grown too fat to fit through the hole! The fox sat sadly inside the tree and said, “I should’ve thought before eating so much.” Moral: Think before you act. Too much greed can trap you.

During vacation, the son came home. The father wanted to show his son how rich they were and how poor people lived. He hoped his son would understand how hard life was for the poor. So, the father and son went on a trip around the town. They rode in a fancy chariot and visited different places where poor people lived. After two days, they returned home. The father was pleased. He noticed that his son was quiet, and thought the trip had taught him a lesson. He asked, “How was the trip, son? Did you enjoy it?” “Yes, Dad. It was a great experience,” the son replied. “So, what did you learn from it?” the father asked proudly. The son paused for a moment, then said, “Dad, we have only two dogs, but they had ten. We have a pool in our garden, but they have a river that never ends. We use expen...
