Think Before You Speak
It was a bright and pleasant day. The railway station was full of people waiting for their train. Among them was a group of young friends going on vacation. The station was busy with juice shops, tea stalls, food vendors, and newspapers for sale.
Soon, a loudspeaker announced that the train was arriving. Everyone got ready to board.
The group of friends cheered loudly as the train came in. They rushed in and found their reserved seats. The train filled quickly and then started moving with a loud whistle.
Just after the train began to move, an old man and a young boy, about 15 years old, ran and managed to get on. Their seats were next to the group of friends.
The boy looked very excited.
“Dad, the train is moving and everything outside is going backward!” he said with surprise.
His father smiled and nodded.
As the train picked up speed, the boy shouted again, “Look! The trees are green and running backward fast!”
He looked around with joy and wonder, as if he was seeing the world for the first time.
A fruit seller came by. The boy said, “Dad, I want to eat apples.”
His father bought some. The boy looked at one and said, “It looks sweeter than it tastes. I love this red color!”
The group of friends watched the boy curiously. One of them asked the father, “Is your son okay? Why is he acting so strange?”
Another laughed and said, “I think he’s mad.”
The father calmly replied, “My son was born blind. He had an operation just a few days ago. This is the first time he is seeing the world.”
The friends became silent. They felt ashamed and said sorry to the father and the boy.
Moral: Think before you speak. You never know someone’s story.
