The Shipwrecked Friends
Once, a ship was caught in a terrible storm and sank at sea. Only two men survived and managed to swim to a small, empty island.
Not knowing what else to do, they decided to pray. But they agreed to live on opposite sides of the island to see whose prayers would be answered.
The first man prayed for food. The next morning, he found a tree full of fruit and ate from it. The second man’s side of the island stayed empty.
A week passed, and the first man felt lonely. He prayed for a wife. The next day, another ship wrecked nearby, and the only survivor—a woman—swam to his side of the island. Still, the other man had nothing.
Then the first man prayed for a house, clothes, and more food. All of it appeared the next day. The second man remained poor and alone.
Finally, the first man prayed for a ship to take him and his wife off the island. The next morning, a ship arrived. The man and his wife got ready to leave, leaving the other man behind.
Just as the ship was about to sail, a voice from the sky said,
“Why are you leaving your friend behind?”
“He doesn’t deserve anything,” the man replied. “I was the one who prayed and received blessings. He got nothing.”
The voice answered,
“You are wrong. He had only one prayer—and I answered it. He prayed that all your prayers would be answered.”
Moral: Sometimes, our blessings are not just because of our own prayers—but because someone else is praying for us.
