The Monkeys and the Firefly

It was a cold and quiet night. The wind was freezing, and a group of monkeys were sitting on a tree, holding onto its branches to stay warm.

One monkey said, “I wish we had a fire. It would keep us warm.”

Just then, they saw a group of fireflies glowing nearby. A young monkey thought the fireflies were real fire. He quickly caught one, placed it under a dry leaf, and began to blow on it, trying to make a fire. Some other monkeys joined him.

A sparrow flew to her nest in the same tree. She saw what the monkeys were doing and laughed.

“Silly monkeys,” she said. “That’s a firefly, not fire! If you're cold, go find a cave instead.”

But the monkeys didn’t listen. They kept blowing on the firefly, hoping it would turn into fire.

After a while, the monkeys were tired. Nothing was happening. Then they finally understood the sparrow was right.

They let the firefly go and went to find a cave to stay warm.
