Sand and Stone

John and James were best friends. They had small fights sometimes, but they always stayed close and cared for each other.

One day, they set out together to find work. They walked through many places—villages, towns, forests, and beaches. Along the way, they helped and supported each other.

After many days, they came to a hot, dry desert. They had very little food and water left.
John said, “Let’s save what we have.”
But James was very thirsty and wanted to drink more.
They argued, and John became angry and slapped James.

James didn’t say anything. He quietly bent down and wrote in the sand:
“My best friend slapped me.”

Later, they reached an oasis. They were very happy to find water and started playing and swimming. But suddenly, James slipped into deep water and started to drown. John quickly jumped in and saved him.

James hugged John and thanked him.

Before they left the oasis, James carved something on a big rock:
“My best friend saved my life.”

John asked, “Why did you write the first thing in the sand and this one on a rock?”

James smiled and said,
“When someone hurts us, we should write it in the sand so the wind can blow it away. But when someone does something good for us, we should carve it in stone so it stays forever.”

Moral:

Forget the bad things others do to you. Remember and treasure the good things.
