Three Sons and a Bundle of Sticks

Once upon a time, an old man lived in a village with his three sons. All three were strong and hardworking. But there was one problem — they kept fighting with each other all the time.

No matter how much the old man advised them to stop quarreling and work together, they wouldn't listen. The villagers liked the sons for their hard work, but they also laughed at them because of their constant arguments.

One day, the old man fell very sick. He was worried about what would happen after he was gone. He wanted his sons to stay united. Since they didn’t listen to his words, he decided to show them a lesson they would never forget.

He called his sons and said,
“I have a small challenge for you. I’ll give each of you 10 sticks. Break each stick one by one. Whoever finishes first will get a prize.”

The sons quickly broke the sticks and started arguing again about who finished first.

The old man said,
“Wait! The challenge isn’t over yet. Now, I’ll give each of you another bundle of 10 sticks, but this time, you have to break them all together without separating them.”

The sons agreed and tried hard, but no matter how strong they were, they couldn’t break the bundle.

They went back to their father and said, “We can’t do it.”

The old man smiled and said,
“Did you see? You could easily break the sticks one by one, but when they were together in a bundle, you couldn’t break them at all. This is the power of unity. If you stay together, no one can harm you. But if you keep fighting and stay apart, anyone can defeat you.”

The sons finally understood. They promised their father they would stop fighting and always stay united.

Moral: When we are united, we are strong.
