The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse

Once there were two mice who were good friends—one lived in a town, and the other lived in the countryside.

One day, the Country Mouse invited his friend to visit him in the fields. When the Town Mouse arrived, the Country Mouse offered him a simple meal of roots and grains. The Town Mouse tasted the food and made a face.

“My dear friend,” said the Town Mouse, “how can you live like this? You eat just like ants! Come visit me in the city. I’ll show you what real food is like!”

So, the Country Mouse agreed and went to the town. There, the Town Mouse showed him a pantry filled with flour, fruits, honey, and all kinds of tasty food. The Country Mouse couldn’t believe his eyes.

They sat down to eat, but just as they began, the door creaked open. Someone was coming! The two mice quickly ran and hid in a small hole. After a while, when everything seemed quiet, they came out again to eat.

But then, someone else came in! Again, they had to run and hide.

The Country Mouse was scared and tired. He turned to his friend and said, “Thank you for the food, but this life is too dangerous for me. I’d rather eat my simple meal in peace than live in fear—even with all this fancy food.”

And with that, he went back to his quiet life in the countryside.
