The Milkmaid and Her Pail

Patty was a milkmaid. One day, she was walking to the market with a pail of milk on her head.

As she walked, she started thinking. "I will sell this milk and get some money. With the money, I will buy some chickens. The chickens will lay eggs. I will sell the eggs and get more money."

"Then I will buy a new dress and a nice hat. When I go to the market, all the young men will look at me. Polly Shaw will be jealous! I will just smile and toss my head like this."

Patty tossed her head—and oh no! The pail of milk fell down. All the milk was gone.

She had nothing to sell now.

Moral: Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
