Foolish Monkeys

Long ago, there was a big, dark forest. One winter, a group of monkeys entered the forest in search of shelter. The nights were freezing cold, and the monkeys were struggling to stay warm. They started looking everywhere for fire.

One night, they saw a glowing firefly in the dark and thought it was fire.

“Fire! Fire! We found fire!” they shouted with joy.

A few monkeys tried to catch it, but the firefly flew away. They were sad and worried. “How will we survive without fire?” they said to each other.

The next night, they saw many fireflies. After many tries, they caught some and put them into a hole in the ground. They started blowing on them, thinking the flies would turn into fire.

They kept blowing and blowing, not knowing they were only insects.

An old owl nearby had been watching everything. He flew down and said,
“Monkeys, those are not fire. They are just fireflies. You can’t make fire from them!”

But the monkeys laughed and ignored him.

“Old owl, you don’t know anything. Don’t bother us!” one monkey replied.

The owl warned them again, “You’re wasting your time. There’s a cave nearby. Go rest there—it will protect you from the cold.”

Still, the monkeys didn’t listen and kept blowing on the poor fireflies.

At last, after hours of trying, they were tired and cold. It was almost midnight when they realized the owl was right.

Feeling foolish, they finally went to the cave. Inside, it was warm, and they were safe.

Moral:

It’s okay to be wrong, but we should always be open to good advice from others.
